In the heart of Oaxaca, there is a corner where textures, colors, sights, scents and tastes kick up their heels to remind you that you are truly in someplace different. La Cava is not just a store, it is a wonderful experience.

La Cava is a study in contrasts; in this project we participate with people who are dedicated to the rescue of cultural and culinary traditions of our country, as well as people specialized in wine making and people who are devoted to the making of hand-rolled cigars.

Since ancient times in Mesoamerica there has been the use of the tobacco plant and the agave plant, both were very well known. In religious ceremonies, pre-columbian priests used to smoke "tubes" of tobacco and people used to cook the heart of the agave and ferment it. After the Spanish Conquest, the distillation of the fermented juices in cooper stills was introduced and the wide spread use of cigars began. To drink a mezcal or to smoke a cigar is to taste the earth, see the light and feel the fire of Mexican history.

After you visit some of the most important ancient corners of Oaxaca, visit La Cava, where you can taste the sense of wonder and mystery in our wide-ranging mezcal, wine and cigar selection.

The "Nicotina Tabacum" species is a native plant to the Americas, used as a cure by the indigenous people of Mesoamerica aswell as in rituals where it's known to have been used to incite poetry. It has been and always will be a sacred plant, as tobacco makes our "invisible" breath visible.

With the mixing of air, smoke and breath we hope the ritual union of heaven, earth and human beings is restored.
