Restaurant Los Danzantes in Oaxaca

Innovative Oaxacan-Mexican cuisine, combining traditional ingredients in new and novel recipes, served up in contemporary presentations. The avant-garde architect-designed setting makes Los Danzantes one of the most exciting places to eat in Oaxaca. A formerly derelict colonial patio now sports high adobe-brick walls, tall wooden columns and cool pools of water in an impeccably contemporary configuration, half open to the sky. Efficient and welcoming young staff serve up a first-class selection of food.

Contemporary Mexican Gastronomy

Just off the cobbled tourist walkway, Restaurant Los Danzantes is a study in contrasts: the warm colors of ancient adobe and natural elements molded in a cool, bold, contemporary style; traditional tones of Mexican music set to a modern rhythm; and, of course, a menu that features regional ingredients shining out in fresh, innovative combinations and fusion cooking.

Two thousand five hundred years ago Monte Albán was founded as the most important Zapotec center in what is now the area of Oaxaca. The images found on the Templo de Los Danzantes and other magnificent buildings are shrouded in mystery. Only the glyphs relating to their 260-day ritual calendar, the oldest in Mesoamerica, have been deciphered. Time has swallowed their original meaning - but there is a message there...and when you visit one of the most important ancient corners of Oaxaca, also considered by many to be Mexico's culinary capital, be sure to visit Los Danzantes to complete the sense of wonder and mystery.

Our customer service also combines the old and the new: traditional Mexican hospitality with a young, cultured beat. Relax with us. Restore yourself. Enjoy the experience of Los Danzantes.
Try something from the extensive wine list specialising in fine Mexican wines.

You will find Los Danzantes nestled inside Casa Vieja, a restored colonial building on Calle Macedonio Alcalá, the main tourist walkway. Peek inside! – you’ll be surprised at what you find tucked away from the noise of the city. You will be drawn in by the scent of hierba santa, cuitlacoche, flor de calabaza

Alejandro D’Acosta within the framework of emotional architecture with a contemporary feel.
